Stefan studied for a BSc Biomedical Science degree at the University of the West of England. He spent four years working in the Medical Microbiology department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. He went onto study an MSc in Bioinformatics at the University of Birmingham during the Covid-19 pandemic, graduating in 2020. He went on to work as a Senior Lab Staff member of the Turnkey Covid diagnostics laboratory run by the University.

Stefan began his PhD at Nottingham Trent University as part of the Wilson Group in 2021 to develop data-driven approaches to personalised medicine addressing the One Health agenda.
