Biography
Professor Philippe B. Wilson is a Franco-British healthcare scientist and entrepreneur whose research spans human, animal and environmental health under the One Health umbrella.
Early life & education
Philippe grew up in a farming environment in Somerset and completed undergraduate and doctoral studies at the University of Bath (MChem Hons; PhD, 2016). His doctoral thesis was titled Towards Isotope Effect Calculations in the Supramolecular Age.
Academic career & appointments
He has held academic appointments at De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University and York St John University and has developed an interdisciplinary research programme that blends analytical chemistry, low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), computational models and translational diagnostics. He has held leadership roles in university innovation and clinical research operations and holds several fellowships in learned societies including the Linnean Society of London, the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal Society of Medicine.
Research highlights
Wilson’s group was an early adopter and pioneer in benchtop/low-field NMR metabolomics (demonstrating feasibility for point-of-care metabolic profiling) and has published widely on NMR and biosensing technologies, metabolomics, and conservation genetics. His work has been funded by organizations including Cancer Research UK, EPSRC and the Royal Society.
"Science that bridges people, animals and environment reveal better solutions for health." — Professor Philippe B. Wilson
Entrepreneurial activities
Philippe has been an active entrepreneur, co-founding several successful startups and established businesses. This includes co-founding a central London laboratory during the COVID-19 pandemic that supported national testing requirements; a lighting business delivering safe, effective antimicrobial sanitation; and several biotechnology and R&D entities supporting his patent portfolio.
He has served as a Non-Executive Director to multiple businesses, offering scientific and strategic expertise as well as acting in the role of Chief Scientific Officer for companies in the medicinal cannabis and health technology sectors.
Public engagement & leadership
Philippe has spoken at major international conferences, been profiled by media and industry partners, and was named in Forbes’ "30 Under 30" for Healthcare and Medicine in 2018. He also serves on advisory and governmental committees related to genetics, comparative medicine and food safety.
